Do You Consider Yourself Blessed?

Good afternoon everyone, this is Wendy and I have been the Office Manager at KCMM 99.1 The One for almost five years now and I am currently going through some incredible life changes. If you haven’t heard, I am moving to Helena with my family, as my husband was just offered a job over there.

You are, at this point, probably thinking…yeah so what? Well, I have to tell you that I have never felt like God has been in more control of my life than in the last 2 months.

We knew my husband graduating from college would change things but we figured it would take some time, some job hunting, etc before we would be able to really get moving in a season we knew God was preparing us for. Little did we know, that God had a different plan. The day after he graduated, he was offered a job. So now we have to sell our house in a slow housing market and then I have to find a job in Helena as well as we have to find a new home to live in. We put the house on Craig’s list and just started to pray that our home would be a blessing to someone, as it had been a blessing to us over the last 12 years. We had an offer less than a week after we started to pray this prayer, for the full asking price!  And it is going to be a huge blessing to this family!  Wow…that was all we could say at this point, was WOW!

A week later, we found a house, put an offer on it and it was accepted. This house is beautiful and again lines up with what we began to pray…that the house that would be a blessing to us would be there at the right price and right time.  Praise God, another answered prayer!

What about my job you ask? Let’s just say I start working for the VA in a week and a half!

So, you may ask, what does this have to do with me being blessed? Well, let me see, if I was to ask you this and you lived in Haiti (for instance), had no home, no running water, no clothes except which was on your back, and no food to feed your family with…but you had the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in your heart…you would most likely tell me that you are blessed beyond your imagination!  But we live in America, the land of the free…or should we say the land of the “me?”  Yes, God has been pouring out the blessings on me and my family in the physical sense, and we are completely overwhelmed with His love for us. However, I often sit back and ponder what I am most blessed over and I have to say I am so blessed that Jesus died on the cross and rose again for ME!  I am blessed that He loved ME so much that He died for my sins and so we could spend eternity together! I am blessed that He has forgiven me my sins, and continues to forgive me of my sins…just because I ask Him to forgive me and His deep love for ME!

Commitment

I have been noticing people all over don’t seem be taking their commitments seriously. That got me thinking…why?

I looked the word “commitment” up in The Random House College Dictionary and found a couple of definitions that fit the act of commitment: 1) the act of committing, pledging or engaging oneself. 2) a pledge or promise; obligation.

Now we know what the word means, but do we really know what it means? How is it, that one can make a commitment to, let’s say, help someone move. Moving day comes and all of a sudden, they have forgotten or conveniently have something more important come up.

Let’s take marriage for instance. The statistics of the number of divorced people should be a great revelation that people seem to not understand what the word commitment really means. I have to say what I am seeing most commonly, is commitment is great when it works well for me.  Is it possible, that we have gotten so selfish in our thinking, that following through with commitments don’t even cross our minds, unless we are getting something in return?

Galatians 5:14 says “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

I find this verse very interesting, and have found the same statement made at least 4-5 other times in the Bible. Do you think it is a mistake that God would have this throughout the Bible, commanding us, to “love our neighbor as yourself.” So, if we are truly turning into a self-centered society, these verses throughout the Bible are very timely. And if we are the only ones that matter to us, if we are truly walking according to the Word of God, then we should be loving our neighbors a great deal.

Shawn Marie sings……To her pets?

One of my hobbies/talents is singing and songwriting.   I’m the “singer” in the family, and I love to write songs for those I love.  I’ve written a love song to my husband, a lullaby for my 3 children, wedding songs for nieces, Baby Dedication song for a nephew and great niece, and even a Funeral song.  I know, you’re all thinking, “So what, lots of people write songs!”

But one thing that’s “interesting” and “creative” about me – I write songs for my pets:  Luvey the cat, Mister Cat, and my favorite –  Kyra, our 2 year old Akita.

Kyra is so sweet and beautiful, and I’m telling her that all the time.  So here’s a little ditty to brighten your day, and introduce you to Kyra, my pretty, big girl.

Kyra’s a pretty big girl!

Is The Drought Over?

We are halfway through the month of January and after almost a month of no snow (at least in the valley) we have all grown concerned about the upcoming months that could lead to an incredible drought in our beautiful state.  Yesterday, we walk out of church to snow on the ground and you could feel the excitement and happiness that it brought.

As I sit here typing this this morning, I have to wonder about drought, not just in the physical sense but in the spiritual sense. I look out my window and see nothing but beautiful snow covering the ground all around, blue sky taking over where the clouds once stood and a crisp feel to the air. It is refreshing, beautiful and brings hope for a drought-free summer.

Are you experiencing a period of drought in your walk with God right now? Have you been praying for some snow, to help bring refreshment and hope? In those times of drought, I tend to be more aware of the need for refreshment and hope for the future, thus often sending me to my knees all the more. I guess, my question from this would be, do we allow ourselves to get into times of drought by not consistently filling our hearts, minds and spirits with the Word of God or are the drought periods in our lives the times that God allows in order for us to remember how much we need Him, his refreshment and hope?

Talking About Grace

Well I have introduced you to the Jorgenson family pets as a whole, now let me share with you about one of them, Grace, or as we call her, Gracie. None of our animals have just one name and some have several, so please bear with me if I say different names throughout, it is truly still the same animal.

Gracie, is a tortoise-shell calico kitty. She is extremely agile and loves to jump…and I mean jump. The more daredevil of a jump, the better! She is also quite the mouser, loving to go into the field behind the house and the ditch across the street, just to see how well her hunting skills are performing. We are slowly teaching her, that though we love her incredible hunting skills, we would much rather she not bring her kill or her live ones into the house to share with us. She is such a generous kitty!

Now you know a little bit about her personality, let me tell you the story of how she became part of our little clan. One early evening a few years back, my daughter and I were taking a walk to the end of the road about a mile away. Making for a nice little two-mile walk with great conversation. About 3/4 of a mile down the road we were walking by some homes and noticed a slew of kittens of different ages wandering around the home and across the street at the grain bin. We kept walking by and noticed that a couple of them were following us, but soon turned around and went back to playing. We finished the walk to the end of the road and turned around to head back home, again to walk by those sweet kittens. We sped up our pace by the house as to not attract attention or get followed. Unfortunately, there was this little one that started to follow us. I would say no more than 4 weeks old at the time. We giggled and sped up some more, it started to chase us. So I turned around and the did the big scary foot stomp on the ground right in front of it and made some loud noise as to scare it off, it rubbed on my ankle and looked up at me. At this point I was certain someone would come out the house and rescue us from this horribly scary kitten, but to no avail. I picked her up and carried her back to the driveway of the home and we took off running. Only to hear her behind us still. So I repeated all my actions but this time, taking her all the way to the front porch of the house and left her with all the other kittens. We took off running and we were about a block away and turned around to see her running down the middle of the road and meowing at us…she was literally chasing us down the road!

Please understand, I did not want this kitten, but it was obvious she wanted us. It was getting dark and all of a sudden our quiet little road became very busy. I had two choices, pick this dear little one up and carry her home the last 3/4 of a mile or leave her on the road with a chance of getting hit by a car. You guessed it, we picked her up and carried her home.

We left her outside on the front porch and called the homeowner where she came from and was told that was not their kitten but if we wanted more, they had some. Hahahaha! We went out about an hour later and there she sat on our deck waiting for us. We let her in and she has never left us!

So I guess you could say we really did not pick this one, she picked us and was very adamant about staying with us. We love her dearly and she has been a wonderful addition to our family!

Our Pets Are Part Of The Family

Jaz

I wanted to take a little time and talk to you about pets…yes that’s right, pets. You see, to know how I feel about pets is a little insight into who I am. I have always had pets, everything from hamsters to horses, but mostly cats and dogs. I have only had a few brief periods in my life without pets in our home. It was wonderful to find and marry a man who loved them as much, if not more than me, thus making it both a blessing and sometimes a, well not a good thing.

First I would like to get a definition of what a pet is. Wikipedia defines a pet as a household animal kept for companionship and a person’s enjoyment, as opposed to wild animals or to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic or productive reasons.  Now this is not to say that the above can’t also be considered pets, I do remember raising a calf as a young child which became like a pet, that is until we sent him to the butcher.

Currently in the Jorgenson household, we have four dogs and three cats…that’s right seven pets! Now, they range in age from 14 months to about 12 years old, giving us a great variety of activity at all times. Of these seven, three are adoptions from the Heart of the Valley, one literally followed me and my daughter home (a great story for another time), one was given to us by my sister who couldn’t keep her anymore and two we actually went looking for and bought. Each one brings something special to our household, much like children do. We don’t look at our pets as anything but members of our family, each with a very distinct personality that only adds to the dynamics of the family.

We feel very blessed that God would bring these amazing pets into our home, giving us an opportunity to be blessed by their incredible, unconditional love and loyalty, along with the intrinsic entertainment that always follows pet ownership. We look at having them in our home as a great honor, that God would choose us to care for and love some of His most amazing creations.

Happy New Year!

There seems to be a great anticipation with everyone I speak to, a great anticipation that 2012 is going to bring about great things. An anticipation that there will be many changes, positive changes, that take place in 2012. I have to admit, I feel that same great anticipation for what 2012 is going to bring.

I have found it interesting that with all of this great anticipation, has also come predictions, “prophecies”, and even movies that the world is coming to an end in 2012. So all of these people, who are expecting great things in 2012, have they just ignored all of these things or is the world coming to an end and that is what they are anticipating? I can’t speak for anybody else, but for me it is very simple…people have been predicting the end of the world for a long time; well before I was born or my mom was born or even my grandparents. So I stop and look at what the Word of God says and it is very clear, that no one will know.

Jesus said in Mark 13:32 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Here you have it! Jesus announced that He doesn’t even know, so what makes me think that some man or woman on the face of the earth would know when the world will end?  With that being said, I am determined to walk into 2012 with my great anticipation for amazing things to be done by and for God! And when He decides to bring us home, it will be, just as it always is, His perfect timing!

Have a Happy and Blessed New Year!
